Welcome to the 2024 HPWC Season

Welcome to the Harbour Pointe Women’s Golf Club.  We are very excited about the 2024 season.  Below is a quick overview of the Club, all the fun activities available, and the schedule for the season.

We are really looking forward to seeing everyone after the winter break and really get the social hour(s) after golf going!  For our weekly competitions, we will have tee times reserved between 1:30 and 2:30 for those playing 18 holes and then between 3:30 and 4:30 for those playing 9 holes.  We encourage members to sign up in those timeframes so that we can all finish about the same time and enjoy some after golf social time, but it is not required.  And one final note, they will release unused tee times Tuesday evening, so make your tee times ahead!

As returning members know, sometimes our schedule changes, so be sure to read the monthly newsletters from Sandy Rudy.  These always have the latest and greatest information.

Thursday Competition

Thursday competition will include the normal competition weekly competition. In addition, there will be an opportunity for optional skins and optional KPs. Sandy will communicate any Thursdays we cannot play because of outside tournaments. The ladies are moved to Wednesdays on those days.

Tee times are not automatically assigned on Thursdays.  To sign up, call the Pro Shop at (425) 355-6060.   Be sure to identify yourself as Women’s Club member and give your first and last names. You do not have to have other players to sign up; just ask to be added to a group.

Tournaments

About once a month, we have a weekend 18-hole tournament with optional themes for each event. There are different formats to challenge low and high handicap players while still having an enjoyable time golfing. Sandy communicates the event information in the Monthly Newsletter and Tournament Event Emails.

2024 Scoring and Handicaps

Scores are entered hole-by-hole into the Golf Genius app during Women’s Club competitions.  Although our weekday competitions are only 9 holes, if you choose to play additional holes, you should continue to enter those into the Golf Genius app. (This is different than what we have done in the past.)  The Pro shop staff will make sure the correct holes are counted toward competition and will post your full score to GHIN.

When you are playing at another course or on a non-competition day, you are responsible for entering your own score, hole by hole in the GHIN app.

Note:  GHIN and Golf Genius are two different apps.  Sue Craven (Handicap Chair) and the Pro Staff will help you with your handicap and/or scoring questions.  Please ask!

County and State Tournaments

This is an opportunity to play different courses with ladies from other clubs. Ladies with all different handicaps participate in the local and state tournaments. Nancy Passovoy will let us know when each tournament is scheduled and the guidelines around playing.  Look for her emails.

Pro-Ams

We are hoping to have these available to us again.  Look for more information in your email.

Birdie Tree and Personal Best Scores

We like to track everyone’s birdies. Carol Stewart will give out an award at the end of the season for most birdies for gross and net players. Birdies are tracked on the beautiful birdie tree on the Women’s Club bulletin board in the clubhouse. Carol will get the birdies from Golf Genius on competition days only.

Text Carol when you have your best ever 9 or 18 holes.

Eclectic Board

Ever wonder how low your score would be if you took the best score for each hole over the course of a season?  Wonder no more because we have a fun competition for that.  It’s called Eclectic.  For just $10, you can enter this season long event.  We have gross and net payouts, along with flights so lots of winners!  The best part is you don’t have to keep track.  All of your competition scores at Harbour Pointe are automatically tracked through Golf Genius.  To enter, leave an envelope with $10 and your name on it for Debbie Schultz at the front desk.  She will keep track of the entrants.  Winners are announced at the year-end banquet.

Local Rules for Holes #3, #6, #7 and #8

If you hit the ball in the water or hazard on #3, #6, #7 or #8, you have 3 choices:

  • Re-tee the ball; one stroke penalty (1 in, 2 out, hitting 3)
  • Drop the ball near the hazard, in line with the pin, and hit over hazard/water; one stroke penalty (1 in, 2 out, hitting 3)
  • Carry the ball to the other side of the hazard/water to the Drop Zone area; 2 stroke penalty (1 in, 2 out, 3 carry, hitting 4).
  • #6 will be different since most drives are not hit into the hazard but the same penalty stroke count applies (one additional stroke to carry around the hazard).

Drop Zones are not typically marked so here are some guidelines:

  • #3 - on the green side of the hole to the left of the bridge in the small flat area about 20-30ft from the green
  • #6 - on the pond side of the fairway, just off to the right from the end of the bridge (~10-20 yds), in the fairway (so the shot isn't over the pond)
  • #7 - on the green side of the pond, about 30 yds to the left of the cart pullout, clear of the sand trap.
  • #8 - on the green side of the fairway, even with the cart pullout area-~20 yds to the right, but not so far that the pond is in play on the next shot.
